What is death?

THIS DEATHLY MONTH

The month of October is heavily associated with death and it is portrayed as ghoulish and unnatural with heavy symbology around pumpkins, witches and the like. Yes, the veil between worlds is thinner at this time of year, however our fear of the unknown is used to  promote rituals that are played down and trivialised as fun for the kids.

For what reason is October the month within which ritualistic practices are socially permitted and who, or what energy benefits from that which we may believe is simply innocent fun or entertainment?

Wouldn’t it be great if we sat with those same children and showed them the change of the seasons, the natural life cycle of the caterpillar and the butterfly, or the natural deterioration of food. Maybe if we just discussed these simple examples of the life cycles around us, a lot more people would be happier to live their lives without a threat of death that looms darkly in their lives.

Science has told us that we are energy, and that energy can not be destroyed, it just changes form. Much like ice to water and water to steam, our lives move through transitions that enable our movement through time and space whilst we experience human life on earth. Is that why we live and die? Are we simply moving through space and time? Do we go on to something else…? Did we come from somewhere else?

Perhaps. Perhaps. Perhaps.

We will be discussing this and so much more on Thursday evenings 1900-2030.

SO WHY DO WE DIE?

Ha ha my friend, if I told you… I would have to kill you.

There is a bigger life cycle that exists and as humans on earth we have adapted to states of mind, diets and activities that promote the reduced life experience. Overall, our mortality is at a low and our quality of life is rather poor. The state we find ourselves in has occurred over a great many years and at present it seems as if it will stay this way or deteriorate as time goes on.

Apparently there was a time when people lived comfortably into their hundreds. I for example am in my early forties, but I would once have been classed as a youth at this same age because of the potential that was once available to live for hundreds of years. Consider the thought of living for hundreds of years though… what social implications would result if we simply didn’t die? What would we do and how would we view our time?

Death is a transition through which we live, and our lives on earth are socially engineered for death. Please take some time to think about it. We are led to death along a conveyor belt called life and I am often left wondering whether we really live, or merely exist. We work so hard for systems that only exist because we do and we prepare our children to take them over so that they continue even when we don’t… Why don’t we give this some thought?

We will be discussing this and so much more on Thursday evenings 1900-2030.

FANCY LIVING FOREVER?

The singer Peter Tosh said that everyone wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die. This distinct denial or fear of death only applies more pressure to our lives because regardless of what we do, we know, deep down inside that we will one day die away.

Scores of men, women and youths seek treatments and remedies, follow tips, tricks and hints and join networks led by experts who claim to have the key to the greater life experience or the ability to slow down the appearance of ageing. Whole industries are geared toward the rejection of death via beauty, exercise, diet and financial expansion, but what is it that we actually fear?

Is it the perception of pain at the point of death? Many endure unspeakable pain to look good… Is it the thought of leaving our loved ones behind? Well we can ensure their security after we have gone… I wonder whether it is a fear of judgement? Who is to say whether you have done right or wrong, who exactly would judge you? And what reward or punishment awaits? I guess this comes down to faith, belief, self  conviction…

I guess it is easier to go through life without having to contemplate such questions. I suppose the answers create responsibilities or life changes that seem hard or demanding. Fortunately we all have free will and can continue blissfully unaware of the future, the thing is though, that the future is always closer than we think…

We will be discussing this and so much more on Thursday evenings 1900-2030.

LET’S LIVE!

Death is merely a transition. We each come to the physical for a short time. Yes, some of us spend longer in our bodies than others; eventually though we all die. If you speak to different people from different cultures they will all give you a different perspective on death that works for them and governs the way they live. When you look at the Western world, where there is no real care or respect for the transitional process of death, you will see that it reflects a throw away culture that is currently present. Technology is driven by a perceived need to be more, have more and do more, ultimately the more that every one desires is life.

It is often lamented, that on the approach toward the transition of death many wish they had lived, they see the missed opportunities and the petty activities that blinded them from the beauty of the Earth and often regret not taking the time to enjoy the simple beauty of life through nature and heartfelt love.

We are here to experience life, from as many perspectives as possible.Perhaps then, the transition of death is a gateway to a new existence, a new expression and a new opportunity to experience more life. Clinging on to this life within this body that will naturally decline, takes the pleasure out of living. We limit ourselves fearing all we have come to know is all we can ever know.

Living isn’t always fun for everyone all the time. For more than we realise, the act of dying provides a sweet release. There have been many times during history where it is recorded that people have opted to die instead of experience injustice, pain inflicted by others and domination. These people are not to be judged harshly, for it is their will during that particular lifetime of which they have experienced all they care to.

So on the subject of lifetimes:

There are many many more…

So why do we die?

So that we might live.

We will be discussing this and so much more on Thursday evenings 1900-2030.
